The Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service concluded its IFFD celebrations on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Regional Headquarters in Sekondi. The event, themed “Appreciating Our Heroes: Say No to Firefighter Assault and Fire Truck Vandalism,” featured a guard of honor, intercessory prayers, and speeches.
Regional Commander ACFO II David Asah Darko emphasized the need for public and stakeholder collaboration to protect firefighters and condemned attacks on personnel and equipment. Special Guest Mr. Stephen Quarshie, Chief Director of the Western Regional Coordinating Council, commended firefighters’ bravery and urged public support.
The ceremony honored fallen heroes with a minute’s silence, flag hoisting, and coin laying. Sub Officer Abraham Esso received a bravery award for rescuing a baby from a fourth-floor fire on May 31, 2023. Additionally, the Command was recognized for best organizing IFFD 2024.
